Title: ANGELA'S SECRET Description: Original composition for jazz ensemble in funky shuffle style, partly inspired by Michel Camilos mid-90s big band recording. Introduction features written, rubato solos for piano, followed by electric bass, which preview thematic material to follow. Drums set up the primary tempo and groove at quarter = 200. Melody is stated by saxophone section, against powerful, call and response figures for brass, and challenging, unison counter-line in the rhythm section. Separate, open solo sections for piano and alto (each with backrounds) are separated by a 16-bar, stop-time soli for horns. Piece concludes with aggressive shout chorus, 16-bar drum solo, D.S., and Coda. Advanced difficulty for all instruments, including demanding brass parts. Lead trumpet range to Ab above high C.
