Title: TRUMP CARD 3 Description: The third movement of the Trump Card Suite is sub-titled Davey, and is a pretty ethereal, but at the same time expressive, melody over light orchestral-type underpinnings and harmonic pedals. There is amply opportunity for the soloist to play melody and also improvisationally stretch out (easy chord changes) when the piece progresses to an aggressive doubletime swing. This is one for your lyrical trumpet soloist. Solos: Trumpet. No doubles. Optional parts for French horns, tuba, and percussion. Wriiten as a commission for jazz trumpet player Dave Scott. Trpt. 1 to written high C. |

Title: WAKE UP TO A MELODY Description: Wake Up To A Melody is a gorgeous gospel styled ballad featuring tenor sax. The lyrical and gentle melody is supported with lush warm harmonies simply scored in moderate ranges for all instruments; the first trumpet only goes to written Bb above staff. This straightforward chart is simple yet effective, I would rate it easy to intermediate. It doesnt frequently happen to me, but I did wake up one morning with this melody in my head and the chart was completed by the end of the day. The chart became a staple in the big band I was playing in, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra.Soloist: 1st tenor sax.5/4/4/g/p/b/d. |
