Title: ENERGIZER, THE

Description: Based on the chord changes to a popular spring holiday song, this chart begins with a verse played by solo (rubato) guitar. From there, the arrangement is an all up-tempo swinger in ¾. A bari solo is followed by a stop-time soli for the horns and rhythm that is tricky to play. A trombone solo leads to a reprise of the main theme, a drum solo and out.

Title: FREEBOP

Description: Named for the intense style of jazz Miles was playing with his quintet in the late 1960's. An unusual composition for me. Based on a twelve tone row, this piece is sometimes tonal, sometimes atonal. Solo improvisation with no chord changes and no holds barred. Ensemble writing is tricky with many surprises. A good conversation piece for your concert program. As Duke said, You may not understand this piece, but remember...IT'S GOOD FOR YOU.Soprano lead over saxophones. Solos: Tenor, soprano, trombone 1 and 2, guitar (or piano, drums) Vibraphone part included. 5/5/5 (5th tpt and tbn parts optional)P,B,D,Vibes.Lead Trumpet to High C.

Title: FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE CADILLAC CLUB

Description: This is is a medium up-tempo (190=BPM) New York four-on-the- floor shuffle. First recorded in 1987 by Bob Berg and his combo, it has become a contemporary standard played all over the world and recorded by many jazz greats. It is a 12-bar blues that was expanded to a 24-bar blues progression with lots of chord substitutions. I have arranged this chart to feature the tenor sax. The melody is very challenging and it has a great sax soli. Also, there is a solo for the piano. It would be in the best interest of the chart to use some type of electronic keyboard or maybe even organ. Electric bass should be used instead of the string bass and it would be great to have an electric guitarist. Solos can be expanded to other players if so desired.Instrumentation: 2trpts, 1trbn, 1alto, 1tenor, 1 bari, guitar, piano (electric or fender), electric bass, and drums.Lead trumpet is a written A flat a minor 13th above middle C - or an octave and minor 6th.

Title: GEEZERHOOD

Description: A rousing, humorous medium swing with solo space for Trombone. The arrangement starts out with two unaccompanied Baritone Saxes stating the theme later joined by the rest of the Sax section. Adding the brass and rhythm section, the ensemble leads to the Trombone solo followed by a shout chorus, a "Count Basie" like Piano ending, and a very interesting final chord. 6,5,5,G,P,B,D.. Trumpet 1 to High Db. As recorded on "Legendary" Bob Florence's Limited Edition Big Band cd. See Otterdist.com cd center. Difficult.
